  • Subterranean termites, drywood termites, and dampwood termites are abundant in California, and all types of structures can have termite infestations. Slab construction, conventional foundations, and even basements are susceptible. Termites are probably the most destructive of pests, in terms of the dollar damage they cause many homeowners and business owners.

While termites cannot eat through concrete, they can gain access to the inside of a structure through cracks in the concrete as small as 1/64 of an inch. They attack almost any area where wood is present. They often reside without detection in: houses, mulch, fences, and stumps.

Even when you do not see any signs, a complete inspection should be performed once a year or every other year. If you discover termites early, they are usually easier to control and there should not be much damage. Learn how you can “Break the Termite Triangle”... click here.

TYPES OF TERMITES & TERMITE TREATMENT METHODS

Subterranean termites are underground dwellers, just like ants. They are silent and generally invisible, and often go undetected until severe damage has occurred. Searching relentlessly for wood to feed upon, they work around the clock in their determination. Mud tubes indicate a travel path from ground to structure. Termites multiply rapidly, and by the thousands. Left undetected, they will cause major structural damage. Fumigations don’t control the subterranean termite because gases don’t penetrate the ground significantly. Baiting is often a method used to locate their colonies.

Drywood termites live in solid dry wood (such as you find in the walls of a home or commercial structure). You can recognize their presence by the tiny golden particles of fecal matter that are ejected from the wood as they move along while foraging on a structure.

Dampwood termites are found in wood that has a high moisture content, such as: logs, stumps, dead trees, or anywhere there is damp or decaying wood. We take care of this larger termite variety by eliminating the moisture problem.

Treatment Methods Are Different for Every Termite Variety and May Involve a Combination Approach of Several Methods to Ensure Success.

    For Subterranean Termites:
    • Treating the Soil: a low-toxic, chemical barrier around the structure is created. Subterranean termites unknowingly begin to carry termiticide in their bodies, spreading the chemical through the entire colony eventually killing them.

    • Treating Wood: visible wood under the house and in the walls are treated with borates. Borates are an effective, preventative treatment against termites.

    • Pre-Treating New Wood: chemically treating new wood (in the construction phase) fortifies the wood and repels termites.

    For Drywood Termites:
    • Fumigation / Tenting: structures are entirely covered with “tent.” Gas circulates inside and outside the structure for the 100% eradication of drywood termites, reaching all areas of infestation. Fumigations do not have any residual. This means once you return to your home there is no need to wash dishes, furniture, clothing etc. Learn more about the Fumigation Process.

    • ThermaPureHeat®: an exciting alternative to chemical treatment! This method can be used as either 100% eradication or localized treatment. Similar to fumigation in that the property is tented. Heated air is circulated, instead of poisonous gas. Learn more about ThermaPureHeat®, the chemical fumigation alternative!

    • Wood Injection: localized infestations are treated by drilling small holes into the wood. Holes are injected with an approved termiticide, thus filling the termite tunnels inside the wood.

    • Scope and Treat: Inaccessible areas are viewed with a fiber-optic “scope” to trace the infestation. Direct wood injection with an approved termiticide is done.

    • Scope & Treat Plus TimBor®: an effective combination of the “Scope and Treat” method, plus an application of TimBor (see below for explanation). Also used for subterranean termites.

    • TimBor® Treatments: now possible to rid your home of destructive termites without tenting! Not only convenient, but effective. TimBor® is a mineral called Disodium Octaborate Tetrahydrate that is mined in the Mojave desert. It is so safe that the technicians that apply it are not required to wear protective gear. But it is deadly to termites! TimBor® is inert so it produces no vapor. Its relative toxicity is on the order of table salt. Learn more about Timbor®.

Unlike other termite treatments which are typically warranted for two years or less, Stock Exterminators’ Whole House TimBor Treatment is warranted for a full five years! During the warranty period, your home will be inspected annually by Stock Exterminators licensed inspectors. These annual inspections will insure long lasting control.

    • Pre-Treatments using TimBor® Pro: the best way to delay the possibility of termite infestation is to pre-treat the house while it is being constructed. TimBor penetrates wood to give it long-lasting protection.

    For Dampwood Termites:
    • Dampwood termites: are eradicated by eliminating the moisture problem that initially attracted them.
There is no such thing as an innocent termite... these pests cause major structural damage!
